In 2013 with 191,000 tons, Iran was rated 23rd in copper extraction and purification, providing 0.9% of the world’s copper. In 2013 Iran was rated 7th in Asia in copper production and purification, providing 1.9% of the region’s copper.

The total reserves of the country based on the results of surveys carried out till date are estimated at around 3 billion tons of ore containing more than 30 million tons of copper. This comprises about 3 percent of the world’s known reserves putting Iran in the seventh position in the world in terms of copper reserves.
